Getting back onto the Internet after a few days off doing editing and taking care of a few other things (if I owe you an email, I’m working to get around to it), here’s a nice list, from American Book Review, of the 100 best last lines of novels. Ulysses is at number four, but let’s face it, that’s more from the sense of accomplishment when you finish that (usually during your first years of college). I like my yes-saying, but my favorite last lines are devastating and short at once. I should say it’s hard to dispute this list, though of course we’d all have a few we’d add. (It also reminds me that if Hemingway knew anything, it was how to end a book.)
